The Karnataka High Court has directed the police to register an FIR against two doctors — one from G.M. Hospital and another from Fortis Hospital — after a patient allegedly died due to botched catheter insertion without proper consent. The patient, suffering from chronic kidney disease, underwent a procedure where a catheter was inserted on the wrong side (left jugular instead of the consented right), leading to complications and eventually death after corrective surgery at Fortis. Despite repeated complaints, police refused to act. The court found prima facie evidence of medical negligence, citing violation of consent protocols and failure to follow due care, and mandated a formal investigation under guidelines set by the Supreme Court.
